Victorinox Trift, great bag, but not for me, Feb 09, 2010

I set out to buy a messenger bag for my new laptop (ASUS-G51VX). After extensive research, finding all positive feed-backs, and a few trips to local computer outlets, I decided the Victorinox Trift would be a pretty good choice.
I got a great price from LuggageBase, the lowest anywhere on the Internet, no tax, and free shipping. It arrived the day FedEx said, good packaging, in good condition.
I loaded my laptop in it and it was quite snug. Victorinox said it would accommodate up to a 17" laptop, my laptop is a 15" and by some accounts a big 15". I was assured by a "bot" on another web site that this bag was a perfect fit, well, it's quite snug. but I'll let that go.
I would have billed this bag as a messenger bag with a laptop sleeve, and classify it as the office bag for everything else, and then your laptop. The laptop is in a sleeve closest to your body, the sleeve, not the thickest, I don't think it does much to protect your investment or your hip. The compartments are not all that well thought out. Yes there's a special pocket for a Swiss army knife, but pockets for your adapters, are sort of small, causing items to be stored in "unintended areas".
The center compartment is quite roomy, large but Spartan, lacking any real thought, no collapsible partitions no additional pockets, good for book or note pads, I suppose.
The front compartment has an organizer with too small compartments, and some pen holders. There's a flap compartment that doesn't look good as it fills up, a bottle holder, and a pleated zipper compartment, I assumed was for my power supply, but it's too small for even a compacted travel size one.
The quality is a 10, the engineering is a 4, and given the fact it's a "Swiss army knife" company who should have shown much more cleverness in design, lowers it to a 3.
Kudos to LuggageBase, great service and quick completion of my order. I'm keeping the bag, I'll probably grow into it. Gee, I thought I was pretty good with research..
